The "DJ" battle continues?

Hey everybody! Aren’t you sometimes amazed on how certain people have that weird gift of pissing you off?
So this is what happened. I got a letter from a guy in Skövde that has seen Levis fake-mixing live at hand at a local club (twisting knobs while a mixtape is playing) and happened to read the articles I wrote on my blog. This guy felt he’d been ripped of because he attended the DJ school where Levis has been giving out DJ lessons in Skövde in late 2009, and decided to write a letter to the DJ school. After the main person behind the project, Magnus, recieved the letter he decided to contact me because he read my articles on the matter. I explained as simply as I can what happened last year and he felt ripped off aswell! Simply because of the fact that Levis got payed a pretty big sum of money that was based of his reputation that he read on the web. If you hire anybody in any line of work that charges you a hefty amount of money for something he is not well qualified to do, wouldn’t you feel like you were being ripped off aswell?
And so when Magnus approached Levis with the letter he got from the guy and after he talked to me over the phone this is what he wrote back today (in swedish):
"Hejsan Magnus!
Oj, vilket brev! Dock inte så överraskande, men självklart förstår jag att det kan få er att höja ögonbrynen lite.
Jag fick ett samtal igår av en av kursledarna vid Göteborgs DJ-Skola och det stämmer att jag aldrig varit anställd hos dom. Dock har jag hjälpt denne kursledaren, Farzad som ni var i kontakt med, i hans arbete där och hans kurs. Så rent pappersmässigt så har jag inte varit anställd och jobbat hos dom, utan det har varit mer utav ett samarbete.
Jag vet exakt vilka som ligger bakom dessa mail och det är inte första gången dom försöker förstöra för mig. Dock har dom inte lyckats förstöra något alls, än så länge. Då dessa mail tyder lite på desperation från deras sida. Det är ett gäng DJ's härifrån Göteborg runt 30-års åldern som har jättemycket erfarenhet i DJ-yrket. Jag har alltid haft och kommer ha stor respekt för dom, även om deras sätt att agera och göra sin röst hörd går denna vägen.
Jag kan även förstå att dom börjar agera när de själva inte fått en spelning sedan maj förra året, vilket har lett till att sponsorer tappat intresset för dom.Hela DJ-världen är väldigt konkurrenskraftig och det är oerhört mycket avundsjuka. Så jag måste faktiskt säga att jag hade gjort nästan likadant i deras sits, dock inte gått såhär långt.
Om jag varit DJ i ca 14 år och utsetts till Göteborgs bästa Hip Hop-DJ 2 år i rad, haft min egna klubb och sponsorer som klär upp en från topp till tå
för att sedan plötsligt hamna i skuggan av en ny ung uppstickare som ska representera ens stad i DJ-tävlingar när man egentligen är från södra Sverige (what?!).
Självklart förstår jag att det är en tuff bransch och precis som jag kom upp så snabbt och roffade åt mig plats, så kan vem som helst dyka upp lika snabbt och ta min plats.
Jättetråkigt att han påstår att mina spelningar för diverse artister skulle vara lögner då det finns inspelade videoklipp från dessa spelningar, medans jag spelat.
Känns lite onödigt när man faktiskt kan bevisa en sådan sak.
Att jag skulle spela mixtapes är det lättaste man kan anklaga en DJ att göra. Det är det snabbast spridande negativa ryktet. Skulle detta stämma som han skriver i sin blogg att jag gjort för flera år sedan, då skulle jag troligtvis inte fått bokningar än idag. Självklart har detta ryktet gjort att jag förlorat en del spelningar också, men det enda jag kan göra är att fortsätta kämpa och motbevisa dom.
Oftast så brukar klubbens hus-DJ vara på plats samtidigt när man gästar en klubb, dels för att kanske ha spelat en stund innan man kliver på själv eller för attvara på plats ifall något inträffar, eller ja för att helt enkelt kika och lära sig lite. Självklart är alla välkomna att kika när jag spelar, jag bygger inte upp någon mur kring mig direkt.
Som sagt så är detta ett jättetråkigt mail ni har fått läsa och jag förstår att ni undrar och ifrågasätter mig. Trots att jag är flera år yngre än dessa personer tänker jag inte smutskasta dem tillbaka utan försvarar mig och mitt jobb ärligt och rättvist.
Det lättaste hade nog varit om man frågat eleverna om jag har gjort ett bra jobb i att lära ut, eller inte. Dom borde kunna svara på om jag var kapabel till min uppgift. Anser ni att dessa påståenden skulle göra er osäkra inför ett fortsatt samarbete, då får jag tacka och bocka för mig och önska er lycka till med framtida aktiviteter! Har ni fler frågor eller kommentarer så finns jag till ert förfogande!
Jag vill ändå tacka för ert mail. Att ni frågade mig hur det egentligen är istället för att dra förhastiga slutsatser uppskattar jag!"

Wow, after reading this shit I called Levis up immediately. I won’t get into the specifics about what me and him talked about but I’ll tell you this. I explained to mister Levis that the reason the letter was sent to Magnus at the DJ school in Skövde was because somebody else, in a whole another town, saw thru his bullshit and decided to do something about it. And that’s EXACTLY the same fucking reason I wrote the articles I wrote on this subject. And if he thinks that I was me or some other “hater happy” DJ that wrote to the DJ school, you thought wrong. This was just a regular guy on the street that happens to know the difference between playing live and somebody fake playing mixtapes. I'm well aware of the fact that anybody can teach out the basics of DJing to beginners. But it’s NOT cool getting payed as if you were getting lessons from David fucking Guetta.
If you start your DJ career lying and scheming your way to the top you have to be ready to face the consequences. I couldn’t believe after all this time this guy still thinks that the reason of us putting out his schemes has only to do with jealosy. C’mon dude…
Let me put it down like this, once again. The reason people got offended by all this shit is simple: we love the culture of DJing and everybody in the GBG DJ scene (Dainja, Bobby, Chulo, Lucho and myself) payed their dues and put in mad work to get where we are. Now, what happened these last two years is that hiphop DJs in Gothenburg get NO LOVE. NONE. So when you try to talk to owners about having an urban club you get shut down immediately. Why? “You bring all the gangsters and foreigners to my place and we don’t want those people here”. And this goes on everywhere (I talk to people all over Scandinavia, same bullshit everywhere).
So now comes the million-dollar question: since things are the way they are, should I:
A) Forget about urban music and play house or techno where I can easily get shows and get payed bullshit money to spin at clubs where you basically get treated like a fucking jukebox and get harassed by people that don’t respect DJs at all?
B) Continue to play the music you fell in love with and hopefully get shows where you’re appreciated and where people respect the DJ as an artist?
My answer is simple, homie. B
And if that means that I don’t get any shows well so be it. I rather stay at home and scratch with my homies ANYDAY, believe that. I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of amazing projetcs such as Fatmilk and Jump Off and Klubb Soft where you got to see the hiphop culture thrive and rise to something bigger and better. Unfortunately everything has it’s ups and downs, and right now things are at a all-time low. Hopefully things will change. I think it will take some time until’ Sweden has the same club culture as lets say in the UK. I mean, just listen to BBC1 Xtra and you’ll know what I’m talking about. The DJs out there get treated like the true artist that they are. People LOVE and respect the DJ! And they all love their music, from the listeners to the club goers to the common people on the street. In Sweden, on the other hand, the peasant minded douchebags in the club still think of DJs as a tool of their own amusement for the night. “Play Carola NOW!”. Fuck you asshole. Pardon my French =)
Anyway, I talked to Levis and I told him one thing. As long as these kind of letters and statements pop up here and there I have no respect for him as a person and as a man. Until’ he starts facing the facts and acts accordingly I’m going to have real trouble believing in some of the things he says to me. Because he often mentions how much he respects all of us DJs in GBG and even looks up to us. And then time after time you read shit like this and you fell he’s a big fat liar. Personally I always want to believe that there is good in all of us. Time will tell…
But until’ then, RESPECT the DJ culture and let’s build up the urban scene in Gothenburg City!
